Slano Lake

One of the artificial lakes in the vicinity of Niksic. This extensive lake is partially dry but surrounded by mountain ranges with a very beautiful panorama. 2. Manitovac Park

Manitovac is essentially a large playground on a smaller river. It is a small oasis for adults and children. An amazing place five minutes from the town center of Niksic, where you can enjoy your coffee or food in the beautiful shadows of the willows by the river while the children play in the meadow. There is also a good restaurant with outdoor seating. The cuisine is classic Montenegrin, so mostly grilled meat in large portions and of very good quality.

3. The Cathedral Church of St Basil of Ostrog

The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Basil of Ostrog is beautifully situated on a hill in the center of Niksic. It is possible to see it from every point of the city, partly because of its position and partly because it is a building of a certain grandeur. To reach it you have to go up a beautiful staircase that starts from the Saka Petrovica square. Once you get to the top, you can admire a beautiful view over the city. The cathedral is so surrounded by trees which makes the place extra tranquil.

4. Crvena Stijena Archaeological Site

The archaeological site of Crvena Stijena is located near the Petrovici village, 30 km away from Niksic and on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. This place is of great archaeological importance and still exudes a special aura. It is a Paleolithic monument, but people lived here until the Bronze Age. There are a lot of well-preserved artefacts, so the cave is a place of scientific research and pilgrimage for scientists. The artifacts from the excavations of the cave, however, are kept in the Niksic city museum in the palace of King Nikola.

The Emperor’s Bridge is a beautiful example of historic architecture and a very majestic building where it pays to make a stop and enjoy the view. It is located 4.5 kilometers from Niksic, on the old road towards Podgorica. You have to cross it first to see its impressive beauty. The view with the panorama behind is definitely worth visiting. 

6. Bedem Fortress

The Bedem fortress is located in the old town of Niksic, which is on the western side of the long boulevard that cuts the city in two in a north-south direction. It is easy to reach on foot from the central square, but you can go there by car, as it is not a problem to find a free parking space right under the fortress. It has a nice facility, from which you have a good view of the city. 

7. Mostanica Bridge

This old Roman 5-span arched stone bridge from the 3rd century is impressive. The Mostanica Bridge was built by the Romans in the 3rd century AD. There are additional arches at the top of the bridge that look like windows. Presumably, so that the river water does not exert strong pressure on the structure, but flows through it. It looks a bit deserted since the river is dry under it. Worth seeing!

8. Dom Revolucije

The Dome of the Revolution also called the House of the Revolution (Dom Revolucije), is a monumental building whose construction began in 1976. Crossing concrete, steel, and glass, it seemed to be both a memorial of the Second World War and a vast cultural space. No need for a guided tour here, you can explore it by yourself and see it from the outside.

9. Communist Partizan Monument

A large monument in its original structure in memory of the Yugoslav soldiers that were shot there during the second world war. If you are in the park it is worth the walk. Apart from the aesthetic, it is a monument of historical importance for those who fought against fascism.

10. Church of St. Peter and Paul

If you are in Niksic and want to take a few extra steps, you can go up to see the Church of St. Peter and Paul. From above you will have a view of the city. This small church has been mentioned in historical documents since the 14th century, but there is a version about the beginning of construction in the 9th century. It was repeatedly completed and rebuilt in the 17th and 19th centuries. It is the oldest in Niksic.

The palace is located near the Cathedral of Basil of Ostrog and next to the cemetery. The palace is now a historical museum. It houses the city cultural center, which includes an archive, a library, and a museum of local lore.

This place used to be the Begovic Bridge, which was destroyed during the siege of Niksic. Now the bridge is overgrown with grass since the residents use a more modern and wide concrete bridge to cross the river. It is located on the northwestern outskirts of Niksic, on the road to Trebinje.

Ski center Vucje is located quite far from Niksic, you need to go in a northeast direction. It is open even in summer too. During the winter season, the tracks are quite long, but not very steep.
